Spring Lake and Coopersville Clash in OK Blue Tilt
Grabinski Feild was filled with supporters as the 5-1 Lakers hosted the 5-1 Broncos. The Alex Lee show would start in the first quarter when he scored on a 33 yard scamper to tie the game at 7. Nodded up at 7 when the teams retired to locker rooms at the end of the first half.
Spring Lake would get the ball to open the second half. Four and out for the Lakers would give the ball back to the Broncos. The Lakers defense would hold serve as Coopersville was forced to punt the ball away after just six plays. Lee would score on 44 yard scoring run, punching in his second of the night and the Lakers would lead 14-7. Jackson Core would come up with an interception that he returned 53 yards into Bronco territory (the Lakers third pick of the night, 2 in the first half by Alex Lee yeilded in zero points for the Lakers). Core and company would take over from their own 25 yard line. Time expired in the third, with Spring Lake marching.
On to the fourth quarter we would go, a short time into the fourth and Lee would slide in the endzone for TD number three from 4 yards out. Coopersville would put together a 13 play drive resulting in a 26 yard TD, Lakers 21-Broncos 14. Four and out for mighty Lakers, would give the ball back to Coopersville. Joe Westhoff picked off a Bronco pass two plays later, that was all the Lakers needed. Capping a 5 play touchdown drive with the fourth rushing touchdown for Lee this time from 4 yards out. Fumbled snap on the PAT would put the Lakers up 27-14. Coopersville tried with everything they had, scoring the final points of the game as time expired on a 10 yard TD Pass. Final 27-20 Lakers, Spring Lake now 6-1 will travel to Grand Rapids West Catholic for another OK Blue bout next Friday.
